Care & Maintenance
Screenline Fence Extensions are manufactured using durable, pre-finished steel surfaces designed to provide long-lasting performance and a clean, attractive appearance. Like other COLORBOND®-type steel products, simple, regular cleaning will help maintain the finish and support long-term service life.
Why Regular Cleaning Matters
Over time, dust, dirt, and airborne pollutants can accumulate on fencing surfaces—especially in areas that don’t receive natural rinsing from rainfall (such as sheltered zones or sections protected by landscaping, walls, or structures). This build-up can hold moisture for longer periods, increasing the likelihood of corrosion, especially in coastal or industrial environments.
Cleaning Frequency
To keep your Screenline Fence Extensions looking their best:
- Every 6 months – minimum cleaning schedule for most locations
- Every 3 months – for coastal areas exposed to marine salts or areas with high industrial fallout
Tip: A regular rinse during normal garden watering is an easy way to stay on top of maintenance for fencing.
Routine Cleaning
Where possible, wash fencing surfaces with clean fresh water. This helps remove surface salts and dirt and is the simplest form of maintenance.
- Use a gentle hose rinse
- Focus on areas that collect dust or are sheltered from rain
- Avoid high-pressure blasting directly on joins or edges
Deeper Cleaning
If fresh water alone doesn’t remove dirt, use a hose with mildew remover and follow the product's instructions.
What NOT to Use
To avoid damaging the finish, never use:
- abrasive pads or scourers
- steel wool
- harsh or solvent-based cleaners
-
abrasive or chemical cleaners such as “sugar soap.”
Always test any cleaning method on a small, hidden area first to ensure it does not dull or discolour the surface.
Important Notes About Water
- Avoid using hard, mineral-rich groundwater for cleaning, as it is not recommended for maintaining these coated steel finishes.
- Always follow local water restriction guidelines when cleaning outdoors.
Ongoing Checks
The long-term performance of your fence can also be affected by surrounding accessories and fixings.
We recommend:
- Inspecting fasteners and fixings regularly
- Replacing any fasteners that show signs of red rusting, as deteriorated fixings can affect areas around them
